From the IGN's ComicCon report...
The panel "Universal Presents Serenity and Slither" was scheduled to begin at 2:15 PM, so I headed over to Hall H, expecting the same semicircular line at the end of the Convention Center lobby that I had seen yesterday.
Inside, the "Universal" panel began with a presentation on its upcoming horror film Slither. Out came its writer/director James Gunn and cast members Elizabeth Banks, Michael Rooker, Gregg Henry, and Nathan Fillion. The audience gave Fillion a huge reception, probably because he is also the lead actor in Joss Whedon's Serenity.
Nathan Fillion was already entertaining the Hall H audience by outdoing Bruce Campbell in satirizing the persona of the egotistical actor. "I'm sorry," said Fillion, acting distracted. "I'm looking at the big screens and I'm fixing my hair."
Asked about his early TV experience, Fillion told us that he learned acting from performing on soaps "and it works for any scene."
He gave us examples, asking "Did I leave the stove on?" and giving us a somber, deep, meaningful look. Then, "I did leave the storm on," for which he used the same look. And then, concluding the trilogy, "No, I turned the stove off," repeating the look yet again. "And it works for all of them," he told us.
Then Elizabeth Banks tested the theory, telling Fillion, "I slept with your brother," whereupon Fillion gave her the same deep, meaningful look. And this was all just like a warm-up for what he did in the Serenity presentation a little while later.
During the panel Banks was asked what it was like to work in the movie with a seven foot puppet representing a monster. Banks said that its tentacles were wrapped around her, and that Michael Rooker, playing the monster, "projected right through the mask." Telling us that the tentacles were on "my naked legs," Banks said matter-of-factly, "I was hot and turned on. He really worked me up into a lather."

Drew's been routing me to his LJ to combat boredom. This one's pretty good...
the Wit
(56% dark, 39% spontaneous, 38% vulgar) |
your humor style: CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK
You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean you're pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.
I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer. Your sense of humor takes the most effort to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.
Also, you probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Jon Stewart - Woody Allen - Ricky Gervais |

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 63% on dark | | You scored higher than 47% on spontaneous | | You scored higher than 57% on vulgar |

| » My two favourite movie subjects: Penguins & Asian Lesbians! |
From comic Demetri Martin: "When you have a fat friend, there are no see-saws...only catapaults."
Favourite Episode 3 quote: "Hold me, Anakin! Hold me as you did by the lake on Naboo...when there was only our love between us." Man that's bloody awful.
It's weird that Star Wars is seemingly finished...but there are rumours of a a prequel dealing with Yoda's adventures as a youth, along with a 3D-animated series and a live-action TV series in the works. This doesn't sound like George Lucas though...would he really milk Star Wars for all its worth? Oh wait...
Besides the upcoming big blockbusters (i.e. "The Island" starring Ewan and Scarlett, "Batman Begins," "Fantastic Four," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire") there are 2 smaller movies I'm interested in seeing:
March of the Penguins - This is the story of one year in the life of an emperor penguin flock - and one couple in particular - as they trek across the Antarctic on an annual journey that invokes just about every major life experience, from birth to death, from dating to mating, from comedy to tragedy, and from love to fighting for survival. March of the Penguins Trailer and this is from Drew, if you want to BUY A PENGUIN!
Saving Face - A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations. Saving Face Trailer It stars Michelle Krusiec

and the very cute Lynn Chen

The adorable couple:
(here's an interview where Lynn talks about playing a lesbian & her nude scene.)

From the Urban Legends Reference Pages, here are the lyrics to "Star Trek," everyone sing along:
Beyond The rim of the star-light My love Is wand'ring in star-flight I know He'll find in star-clustered reaches Love, Strange love a star woman teaches. I know His journey ends never His star trek Will go on forever. But tell him While he wanders his starry sea Remember, remember me.

| » Excerpts from Buffy... |
Excerpts from Buffy Season 7 Episode #136: "First Date" WILLOW: What happened? XANDER: What do you think happened? Another demon woman was attracted to me. I'm going gay. I've decided I'm turning gay. Willow, gay me up. Come on, let's gay. WILLOW (softly, a little embarassed): What? XANDER: You heard me. Just tell me what to do. I'm mentally undressing Scott Bakula right now. That's a start, isn't it? ANDREW (wistfully): Captain Archer... XANDER: Come on, let's get this gay show on the gay road. Help me out here.
In honor of Bravo's marathon, here's:
Characters I miss on "The West Wing" Sam Seaborn (I think Rob Lowe should make a triumphant return to help Josh run Matt Santos' presidency) Ainsley Hayes (Emily Proctor was quirky & cute-hot and I liked her constant snacking; sadly she looks much older in "CSI: Miami") Joe Quincy (Matthew Perry showing that he can be more than Chandler) Lionel Tribbey (Guest-Star-Emmy-Award juggernaut, John Larroquette) Oliver Babish (the funny & combative Oliver Platt) Joey Lucas (the beautiful and most successful hearing-impaired actress, Marlee Matlin) Bruno Gianelli (the usually evil Ron Silver as a tough political strategist)

| » BtVS: Beneath You |
As my Xanga readers know, I enjoy posting excerpts from BtVS, Angel, ER, and Firefly. I've probably posted the following a couple times, but it's good shit. Here's the final moments from the 7th season episode entitled, "Beneath You:"
BUFFY: Your soul… SPIKE (laughs): A bit worse for lack of use. BUFFY: You got your soul back. How? SPIKE: It’s what you wanted, right? (looks up) It’s what you wanted, right? Spike puts his hands to his head and winces. SPIKE: And now everybody’s in here, talking. Everything I did, everyone I… and him… and it… the other. The thing beneath…beneath you. It’s here, too. Everybody. They all just tell me go. Go… to hell. BUFFY (horrified): Why? Why would you do that? SPIKE: Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he mustn’t? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev— (beat) To be a kind of man. Spike approaches the large cross standing at the head of the chapel. SPIKE: And she shall look on him with forgiveness and everybody will forgive and love… and he will be loved. So everything’s okay, right? Buffy watches in stunned silence, a single tear tracking down her cheek, as Spike drapes his arms over the cross and rests his head upon it. Smoke starts to curl up around him as the religious icon singes his flesh. SPIKE: Can we rest now? Buffy, can we rest? FADE TO BLACK END
Genius and powerful.
